Constellation advances climate goals to help large enterprise customers reduce their carbon footprint

BALTIMORE (July 27, 2022) – Constellation, the nation’s largest producer of carbon-free energy and a leading provider of energy products and services, today announced that it will offer 100% personalized service solutions to its commercial and industrial customers. announced that it has fulfilled its commitment. Customer reports are part of Constellation’s industry-leading 100/100/100 climate commitment, which includes:

  • Achieve 95% carbon-free electricity by 2030 and 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040

  • Deliver personalized data to 100% of your business customers to help reduce your carbon footprint.

Constellation currently produces 10% of all clean on-grid energy in the United States through its fleet of zero-carbon nuclear, solar, wind and hydroelectric plants.

The report (see example) contains customer-specific information on the Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions of facilities served by Constellation electricity and/or gas.

To help customers easily visualize and understand their climate impact, the report compares the mileage required for an average passenger vehicle to match the customer’s carbon footprint. The report also highlights how customers are switching to clean energy, reducing their carbon footprint and becoming more sustainable.

This report is produced at a time when business leaders and local governments are stepping up their efforts to tackle climate change. About 60% of Fortune 500 companies, 600 local governments and 25 states have already announced climate and energy targets or action plans. The federal government also plans to purchase 100% carbon-free electricity on a net annual basis by 2030 and 50% carbon-free electricity on a 24/7 basis.

Constellation will begin distributing the report in late August, and all commercial and industrial customers, including three-quarters of the Fortune 100, will receive the custom report by the end of 2022.

Among other climate initiatives, Constellation partnered with Microsoft to develop 24/7 carbon-free energy matching technology. This will help customers achieve Zero Emission Reals, unlike the current practice of annualizing renewable energy certificates and credits. This product uses local carbon-free energy sources by the hour to meet customers’ energy needs.
