LOS ANGELES & PORTLAND, Hours .– (COMMERCIAL LINE). Oregon and SW Washington, to develop mixed reality (MR) teaching and training simulations for both healthcare professionals and introductory students starting with basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ALS). Permanent subsidiary Health Care Ventures, aka Sidney, will provide medical advice to GigXR to create state-of-the-art teaching and training simulations delivered through its XR solutions.
Today’s cardiac emergency training requires students to use static rubber and unrealistic mannequins. New training simulations co-created by Permanente Health Care Ventures aka Sidney and GigXR use mixed reality, which fuses real-world physical environments with hyper-realistic digital elements, to present students with holograms of realistic speaking and walking patients who “live” the heart stop to interact and practice life-saving treatments in real time. Patient holograms can also be superimposed on any manikin to make practicing chest compressions or using a defibrillator even more realistic.
“Speed, accuracy and teamwork are key to providing lifesaving care during a cardiac emergency; training must be of high quality for each person involved, individually and as a group. Conventional methods like expensive mannequins can’t simulate the sense of urgency and teamwork of real-life BLS / ACLS – mixed reality adds both an incredible level of realism and collaboration to fill critical gaps in training. By partnering with GigXR, we enable students to practice real-time emergency care in the metaverse just as they would as a healthcare worker in the hospital or even as a family member at home. ”Said Patricia Ramos, MD, MCRP, Medical Director, Center for Innovative Medical Simulation and Senior Emergency Physician at NWP.
The partnership between Permanente Health Care Ventures, aka Sidney and GigXR, will drive the development of acute care simulations to expand GigXR’s catalog of hyper-realistic mixed reality training applications. Leveraging GigXR’s cutting-edge technical expertise in creating holographic patient scenarios and the platform to deliver them, Permanente Health Care Ventures, aka Sidney, will open up new and unprecedented access to the most realistic emergency training tools led by its team. elite medical experts.
Instructors will be able to use different modules to develop skills, for example:
- The first module will mimic task trainers for learning manual skills, such as hand placement and compression depth, the ratio of compressions to breaths, and correct defibrillator electrode placement. With MR, the training will have a holographic instructor who can help students see exactly where to put their hands, show them exactly how deep the compressions need to go, and even provide real-time feeds to the student if they are performing the techniques correctly.
- The second module it will allow individual or group learners to apply the manual skills learned from the first module within a hyper-realistic scenario in real time. For example, a team of users will interact with a holographic patient who progresses from chest pain to complete cardiac arrest requiring basic life support techniques (BLS). The team will then have to work together in real time to perform manual chest compression techniques, check the pulse, use a defibrillator, etc.
- The third module it will be for medical professionals to practice advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) which will include a complex and ever-changing scenario with drugs needed to push, chest compressions, chest tubes and other advanced procedures.
These will be the first of many modules available for and through Permanente Health Care Ventures physicians, aka Sidney and its associated professional company of physicians and clinicians, Northwest Permanente, and GigXR’s global customer base of nursing and medical schools, teaching hospitals and high school educational institutions. Dr. Ramos and GigXR will also talk about the initial development of these modules and the impact of mixed reality on training innovation at next week’s IMSH conference, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 4:00 pm Pacific Standard Time.
“Teaching CPR using mixed reality greatly enhances the realism of scenarios which helps students better visualize and apply training,” added Ramos. “Ultimately, it improves general learning, knowledge retention and judgment to make them more confident and competent in real life. For a non-medical professional who practices how to handle these scenarios, which can be incredibly intense and shocking, will be life changing. of those suffering from a cardiac emergency outside of a hospital or clinical setting. For the medical professional, these MRI experiences will enable them to improve their ICU skills in the most hyper-realistic and fail-safe environments. “.
With over 5.4 million people certified in CPR and many renewal protocols requiring annual retraining, Permanente Health Care Ventures (aka Sidney’s) partnership to create new simulation training has the potential to positively impact others. millions of needy. It also meets the demand for more realism, which is driving an expected CAGR of 47.6% in the overall mixed reality market from 2021 to 26, and with medicine and education both requiring scalable and global training resources, GigXR is a privileged investment.
“Permanent Health Care Ventures (aka Sidney) investment strategy is unique: we look beyond ROI to what I would call a ‘return on results’, said[Dr. Micah Thorp DO, President, Permanent Health Care Ventures (aka Sidney). “Investing in GigXR represents our commitment to improving outcomes for our patients and the wider community. GigXR has built the infrastructure to support the globalization of high quality healthcare education and reduce resource barriers – we are excited to join them in accelerating innovation and access to tomorrow’s high quality healthcare. ”
GigXR’s platform allows instructors wearing a Microsoft HoloLens headset to evolve scenarios, move and add content, modify patient vital signs with hologram, and watch all user actions in real time. The platform allows students to use real-world or mixed reality medical tools, hear accurate sounds such as breathing and heart rate, and see patient records on the screen. Additionally, GigXR’s platform extends accessibility so that users can view all of these scenarios in real time with mobile devices such as any augmented reality (AR) enabled iOS and Android device.
“We are honored to partner with Permanente Health Care Ventures, (aka Sidney),” said David King Lassman, founder and CEO of GigXR. “Their multi-specialty expertise will enable us to create the most accurate and robust acute care content possible, while the investment not only fuels our rapid growth, but also an in-depth knowledge of the industry. At GigXR, we are building the tools and training platform in mixed reality at the same speed that vital medical education needs evolve – this partnership is a milestone in the globalization of vital technology to support it. ”
GigXR and Permanente Health Care Ventures, (aka Sidney) plan to launch holographic simulations later this year.
