LOS ANGELES, California, March 5, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Women of Crypto (WOC) founder Amy Matsushima announced that all 8,888 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for female avatars sold out on the first day of sale.
Women of Crypto is the first of its kind, a 3D avatar NFT collection of 8888 women with 111 unique physical features, traits, accessories and backgrounds. All were sold on release day, February 3, 2022.
“On launch day, we were getting 50,000 clicks per minute,” Matsushima said. “It actually crashed the website. Despite this, they all sold and we received a lot of positive feedback from public figures like Paris Hilton and Ja Rule.”
The successful launch of the NFT collection is just the beginning of a larger project. “Women of Crypto is an ongoing women-led and women-empowering project that we are building from the ground up. We’ve been fortunate to work with two incredible charities, Crypto Chicks and Women Who Code,” Matsushima said. “We have already donated over $100,000 to these two charities.”
The charities reflect WOC’s mission to educate and empower women in business, cryptocurrencies and related topics such as NFTs.
“Our team has created a series of exclusive pre-filmed courses that explain everything in depth, from the basics of blockchain technology to how NFTs and the Metaverse work. We also provide step-by-step blueprints on how anyone can start their own successful NFT project. All of these courses will be available to members through our private Discord channel,” Matsushima explained.
The main goal of the Women in Crypto project is to consistently work towards empowering and educating underrepresented individuals in the crypto scene. Matsushima wants to bridge the gender gap in particular.
“The world of crypto and NFTs is largely male dominated and we want to change that. One of the main reasons blockchain was developed was to create a level playing field for everyone, and that just didn’t happen. The project, our community and our partners want to inspire more women to get involved in cryptocurrencies. Our collective effort strives to improve inclusion.
“The idea of the community around Women of Crypto is to grow, learn and connect. For example, NFT HODLRs get free access to our conventions where they can network with other members and learn from experts in areas like real estate, e-commerce and investing. Our first event will be held in Los Angeles in early April 2022, with many more to come.”
In addition, WOC will cooperate with world famous beauty brands to develop and manufacture beauty products. The beauty industry is already geared towards women, so collaborating with well-known brands will help raise awareness and normalize the crypto scene.
“The idea is not to limit women to beauty consumption, but to make NFTs less intimidating and more visible. We aim to partner with high quality, internationally recognized brands that align with our mission and ethics. In this way we can ensure quality and increase brand awareness. The partnerships and products will also generate significant revenue that will be reinvested in the project,” Matsushima said.
As a show of gratitude, Women of Crypto NFT holders will soon be able to claim a free Men of Crypto (MOC) NFT. These will also be high quality 3D avatars, keeping the same concept and style as the Women and dropping from the air in March 2022. The Women/Men of Crypto are based on the Ethereum blockchain.
The project also has an eye on the future as both avatars are currently being fully rendered and ready to come to life in the Metaverse. Once work on the WOC and MOC is complete, owners can use them to access exclusive community networking events within the Metaverse. Additionally, avatar owners can unlock several members-only benefits.
“The Metaverse and NFTs are still in their infancy,” Matsushima said. “That’s why projects like ours are so important. As an entrepreneur from a young age, I’m used to raising eyebrows because I’m a woman. So when I saw gendering in crypto from the very beginning, I knew something had to be done.
“By educating and empowering women, we can make the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain more visible and less intimidating to the underrepresented. Everyone should have a place on the blockchain and be part of the technological and financial revolution that is happening.”
The 8888 WOC NFTs may be sold out, but the community is just getting started.
